John Perentesis, MD, is a Deb Kleisinger Endowed Chair and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and director of the Oncology Program at Cincinnati Children’s.
Dr. Perentesis joined Cincinnati Children’s in 2002 from the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School. Under his leadership, the Oncology Program at Cincinnati Children’s has developed into one of the top-ranked programs in the country and an international referral center for high-risk and relapsed disease. Dr. Perentesis is recognized as an international expert in new anticancer therapies for children. His National Cancer Institute-funded clinical and laboratory research program focuses on the molecular mechanisms that cause leukemia and lymphoma, new anticancer drug development, and the pharmacogenetics of cancer therapy.
In 2007, Dr. Perentesis was appointed to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Investigational Drug Development Steering Committee, a new initiative of the National Cancer Advisory Board, which works to identify and prioritize new anticancer drug development in the United States for both adults and children. He is a member of the national steering committee for the NCI Pediatric Phase I Consortium and also serves in national leadership positions in the Children's Oncology Group (COG) and the new Department of Defense Neurofibromatosis Clinical Therapeutics Consortium. In the COG, he chairs the Myeloid Leukemia Relapse Committee, is vice chair of the Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Committee, and serves on the Institutional Performance Monitoring Steering Committee. He has trained multiple oncology fellows and is the co-director of a new training program in Cancer Developmental Therapeutics and Pharmacology.
Dr. John Perentesis is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School and completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology/bone marrow transplantation and postdoctoral research training at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
