Research

The Cincinnati Cancer Consortium includes 142 College of Medicine faculty members at UC and Cincinnati Children’s who currently hold about $32 million in cancer-related grants.

Research will be organized into four primary scientific groups—involving basic and translational scientists as well as clinicians. The specialties are:

Hormonal Malignancies: Defining the action of hormone receptors and hormone-regulated growth and death of cells in cancers such as breast and prostate.

Molecular Oncology: Understanding the mechanisms that contribute to cancer development, defining pathways that influence cancer treatment and response, and developing new agents to treat cancer more effectively.

Pediatric Oncology: Developing innovative biological approaches to childhood cancers, defining the basis for tumor predisposition in specific populations, and conducting extensive translational research to define new treatment options.

Cancer Susceptibility: Investigating the effect of environmental exposures and genetic variation on cancer susceptibility and on defining interventions to limit cancer risk and provide effective treatment.
